The new face of Tanjung Malim: Visitors can explore the rooms & corridors of Sarang Art Hub, filled with the elaborate, eye-catching work of Malaysian artists, before settling down for a hot meal of petai fried rice. If you'd like to stay the night, there are guest rooms available at this venue, helmed by noted screenwriter Mamat Khalid & his wife as a hub for young local talents.

The old(er) face of Tanjung Malim: Yik Mun's decades-long claim to fame - pau stuffed with beef curry, chicken curry, kacang or kaya (RM2.20) - may no longer warrant an hour's drive out of KL (the bun-to-filling ratio seems unfavourable), but if you're already in the area, it could be worth stopping by to soak in the amiable small-town kopitiam charm & sample a couple of other specialities that continue to be a magnet for crowds; the curry fried rice (RM8.50) proves pretty enjoyable with its distinctively spiced dimensions, while the Hainanese chicken chop (RM17) feels like an adequate throwback to a less complicated age.
