Izumi Shokudo @ Taman Desa & Uoh Kuni @ Shimokitazawa

Taman Desa's latest Japanese joint serves up a satisfactory kaisen don, sufficiently topped with tender cuts of salmon, tuna, octopus, mackerel & other fresh seafood that the kitchen might have at hand. The menu hits familiar notes from the Japanese oeuvre - tori karaage to shishamo tempura, kitsune udon to zaru soba - to ensure that casual customers will feel at ease here.

Uoh Kuni's chirashi sushi represents the bounty of Japan's oceans reasonably well, blanketed with a luscious variety of sashimi (plus, shirasu!), making this restaurant a pleasant stop while wandering the charmingly atmospheric streets of Tokyo's Shimokitazawa neighbourhood.

  1. Looks like this is another addition to the Japanese eateries that have been sprouting up in Taman Desa lately....and that bear looks in need of a hug! ;)

    1. Contact.ewew: you're right - the bear does looks a little lonely! Hopefully it'll be happier once the customers start pouring in :)

  2. The one here had the bear...and the one in Japan has a dog. There's a great Japanese story about a faithful dog, Hachiko!

  4. Seem like Taman Desa has become little Japan with so many Japanese eateries mushrooming recently.
