Half Moon @ Seri Kembangan

Half Moon conveys the full force of Middle Eastern cuisine with flavour-packed dishes that you'll devour with gusto - lamb liver with hummus (RM15), crisp-skinned rotisserie chicken (RM24 for half a fowl), Yemen's national speciality of saltah, a tangy-with-tomatoes stew with fenugreek froth (RM12), lamb fried with eggs (RM12) & ful medames soft-cooked fava beans (RM10), partnered with plenty of carbs, from huge flatbreads to deliciously spiced madghut rice with aromatic chunks of lamb (RM18).

H.A.P.P.Y. & Shimokita Komorebi @ Setagaya, Tokyo

Landing in Tokyo at 11pm & arriving in the neighbourhood of Setagaya past midnight means that precious few restaurants & bars remain open - lifesavers for supper & several sips at that late hour include H.A.P.P.Y., a six-seater whose show-runner dishes out steaming-hot bowls of oden until the wee hours of the morning ...

... & Shimokita Komorebi, a tiny & narrow bar where you'll receive a gracious smile & a glass of wine or pint of Japanese beer.

Sukaphat Thai Vegetarian Restaurant @ Old Klang Road

This Thai vegetarian restaurant offers enough to entice - the deep-fried 'pomfret' is strikingly shaped to resemble the real fish, in a substantial serving that'll suffice for two to three customers, soaked in sweet-&-sour sauce with a colourful sprinkling of fruits & vegetables (RM28). Mock meat also takes centre stage for the 'mutton' massaman curry, reasonably rich & robust (RM17.90). But our best bet here is the pumpkin fried rice, flavourful & textured with 'prawns,' mushrooms & more (RM13.90).

Sukaphat Thai Vegetarian Restaurant
Valenza Hotel, Lot 118, Batu 3, Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur. Open daily for lunch & dinner. Tel: 03-7972-6100
